The Woman at the Well - Thirst No More

Every one of us is on a search. The moment life begins there is this thirst etched into our souls.

This longing that is an innate to us as our thirst for water. We can call it different things: Searching for satisfaction, fulfillment, peace, joy, or love…We will be searching for it all our lives.

In relationships. In power. In success. In kids. In friends. In money. In chocolate. And here’s the thing: Sometimes those things seem to satisfy our lives. But here’s the problem: whatever thirst they quench, whatever joy they create, it never seems to last. The problem is that these things will never actually quench our thirsts, satisfy our deepest hunger. We can mask it all day. But deep down what we crave is something this world cannot supply. Jesus came to us with a message, ““I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35).

One day a Samaritan woman had an extraordinary encounter with Jesus. She came to draw water from a well in the middle of the day because she did not want to be seen by anyone. She was an outcast. A pariah. She did not just have one divorce but five. The man she was living with was not her husband. She spent her whole life looking for love, searching for satisfaction in men. But, her life was changed when she met Jesus. Jesus tells her, ““Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst” (John 4:13-14).

She was so changed by her encounter with Jesus she leaves the well to tell her whole town about Jesus. Why? She found the One we all have been searching for!

Today, run to Jesus and let Him satisfy for your deepest thirsts.
