The goal of the Worship Ministry at FishHawk Fellowship is to bring
authentic worship to the Lord through music and related arts. We seek
to use music arts to draw our church body into authentic worship.
Worship begins with hearts surrendered wholly to God and a commitment to
honor God with every part of ourselves and not just our lips. In short,
true worship is a lifestyle. Only then will the expression of worship
through music and the arts be genuine and will thereby lead others into
experiencing God. To that end our goal is to make Christ the center of
our worship teams' lives.
Our worship ministry offers various
opportunities for service including:
Praise Choir
Our Praise Choir provides an opportunity for those called to the worship ministry to help lead worship at Fishhawk Fellowship. Our Praise Choir meets weekly on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. As a praise choir, our focus is more on encouraging the body to worship the Lord than on performing for the congregation.
If you would like to join the choir, please call Pastor Matt at the church offices or simply show up on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at room B-210.
Worship Band
God continues to bless Fishhawk Fellowship with great talent. Band members serve on a rotating basis. The band practices each week on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Membership in the band is by audition.
If you are proficient on an instrument, including keyboards/piano, guitar, bass, drums, brass etc., and have a heart to glorify the Lord with you instrument, please contact Pastor Matt at the church offices.
Technical Ministry
Sound, video and lighting have taken on an increasingly important role in our modern worship. At FishHawk Fellowship, we seek to maximize technology to honor the Lord and bring worshippers to completely focus on Him. We therefore strive to enhance our worship with all of the latest technology while keeping the technology unobtrusive. Video, audio and lighting technicians serve on a rotating basis. For more information or to volunteer to serve in this ministry, please email our technical director, Mathew Leach at mleach@fishhawkfc.org.
Children's Music & Arts
Fishhawk Fellowship offers choirs for children ages 3 and up. For more information on children's choir, please contact our children's minister, Donna Terrell, at the church offices.
Youth Choir
Youth Choir is offered for our middle school and high school students. For more information, please contact of Minister of Students, Daniel Duncan, at the church offices.
Worship Ministry FAQs:
Who gets involved in the worship team of Fishhawk Fellowship?
The people who are involved with the worship team attend Fishhawk Fellowship on a regular basis. They feel called by God to use their gifts to serve the church through their musical talents and/or technical skills. They have a servant’s heart and are ready and willing to use their gifts to honor God and to share His love with others.
Do I have to be a member of Fishhawk Fellowship to serve on the worship team?
No. You do not have to be a member of the church to serve on the worship team. We do, however, ask that you sign a Worship Team Covenant and strive to fulfill the letter and spirit of that covenant. As a general rule, we ask all those who wish to continue to serve on the worship team to become a member of Fishhawk Fellowship within one year of joining the worship team.
I want to be part of the choir, what should I do? Do I have to audition?
You do not have to audition for the choir. If you want to join the choir, simply call the church office and let Pastor Matt or Becky Moore know you will be attending. Then, just show up on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. If you have children that will need childcare during rehearsal, we need to know, ahead of time, how many and their ages so that we can arrange for an appropriate number of childcare workers. If you don’t know what part you sing (soprano, alto, tenor or bass), Pastor Matt or one of the choir assistants will help you identify what part you should sing. CDs of music we plan to lead in the coming weeks are distributed about every two weeks at rehearsal so team members can listen to them and be prepared for rehearsal. All “special music” pieces that the choir and praise teams perform are memorized.
When are rehearsals?
Regular rehearsals are held every Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Band and Vocalists meet in Building B, 2nd Floor, Room #210. Call time for Sunday pre-service rehearsals is 7:30 a.m. Band members are expected to have their instruments set up, tested, and ready to start rehearsal promptly at the rehearsal start times. Special rehearsals are called occasionally as events require.
Is childcare available during rehearsals?
Because we rehearse on Wednesday, children ages 3 years old to 5th grade can participate in AWANA from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. We provide childcare for infants as needed and for all children from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
How often does the choir perform?
The choir helps lead worship on a regular basis. Currently, the choir is on stage approximately three Sundays a month. The choir usually sings a “special music” selection about every two or three weeks.
What should I wear?
Currently, we do not wear robes. Instead, we ask all worship team members to dress modestly and in a manner that brings honor to the Lord. On Sundays when a worship team member is participating in the worship team, we ask that member to wear black base (pants, skirt etc.) with solid (or minimally patterned) tops of whatever color is the “accent color” of the month. Alternatively, team members can wear all black or all of whatever the accent color is. The idea is simply to have consistency in the appearance and color scheme of the team members and avoid clashing. This also will help as we begin to video record and broadcast services.
Do team members participate in all services on the Sundays that they are leading?
Yes. Team members are expected to play/sing at all worship services. However, members are only expected to stay for one of the preaching times. For example, some members choose to return home during the preaching time after singing at the first service in order to help get their families ready to return for Bible study etc. and they attend the preaching during the second service. Others attend the early service preaching time and then leave the church immediately following the second service worship/singing time. Except in extenuating circumstances or special situations, team members are expected to attend at least one of the message times on the Sundays they serve on the worship team.
What if I miss a rehearsal?
Rehearsals are important and we expect all members of the worship team to make them a priority. We do understand, however, that illness, work commitments and unusual events can prevent people from attending rehearsal. If a team member misses a rehearsal, the team member should “sit out” the following Sunday unless the team member obtains approval to participate from Pastor Matt.
How are people chosen to sing on microphone?
Auditions are held twice a year in the spring and fall for praise team members (those who sing on a microphone). Praise team members have to be able to hear and sing parts and to create parts (without the assistance of written music) when needed. There are currently four teams with three or four members on each team.
If I’m involved in the technical ministry, how often do I serve and what are the expectations?
Worship team members serving on the technical ministry rotate responsibilities. Currently, we have three separate teams composed of 2 audio/video operators each. Each team serves every third Sunday. Our technical needs are growing, however, as we add camera operators, production assistants, video mixing, lighting activity, and a second venue. We also need help in creating and editing video media to enhance services. Mathew Leach is our technical director and will be forming these teams and helping get everyone trained as we expand this important ministry. For further details, you can email Mathew at HYPERLINK "mailto:mleach@fishhawkfc.org" mleach@fishhawkfc.org. Tech team members are expected to serve at all services on their designated Sundays and to participate in all aspects of the worship team, including Wednesday evening rehearsal times on the weeks they are serving. Tech team members should arrive on Sunday morning by 7:20 a.m. so that they can have their area of responsibility up and running by 7:30 a.m.
How are band members chosen?
Band members audition to play in the band. Auditions are set as needed. Contact Pastor Matt if you wish to audition to play an instrument. We will provide charts and MP3s for two songs for your audition and will set up an audition time with you.
I would like to sing a solo. How can I do that?
Soloists and other special music performances are generally drawn from members of the worship team. Team members set up an audition time with Pastor Matt. Solos and other special music are chosen based on many factors including how the theme and style of the song fit in with the sermon and other events planned for a particular service.
What is the purpose of the worship ministry?
The purpose of the Fishhawk Fellowship worship ministry is to direct praise and worship to Jehovah God the Father, Jesus the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit of God. The scriptures tell us that awesome creatures surround the throne of God giving Him praise, worship and honor continuously. Satan despises all worship of God and seeks to steal the worship that rightfully belongs to God. As God’s children, when we choose by our own free will to worship God (not just with our lips, but with our hearts and lives), strongholds of the enemy are torn down. Spiritual chains that bind people are broken. We surrender our skills and abilities to God and, through the power of the Holy Spirit, He guides us to offer worship to Him. So our sole purpose in the worship ministry, is to lead God’s children to direct all honor, praise and glory to God, Who alone is worthy of our worship.
